Janet is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic presenter with over 20 years experience as an English Subject Lead, Assistant Headteacher, Leading Literacy teacher as part of the National Strategy, and as a Primary English consultant. She has been involved in the test development and marking of the KS2 GPS test since 2013, in the writing moderation process working directly with STA and she is the Primary Officer and a Primary English consultant for the National Association for the Teaching of English (NATE). She is also the editor of Primary Matters, a NATE magazine specifically for primary teachers, which gives her a unique association with leading English experts and authors. Janet is a freelance English and Literacy consultant who specialises in supporting teachers with the teaching of grammar, punctuation and spelling, especially the development of children’s vocabulary and comprehension skills, in schools nationwide. Janet believes in collaborative approaches to learning and her training sessions will include practical activities and opportunities for discussion. She is an avid reader and reviewer of children’s literature and is keen to get all children excited about reading and writing. Her creative teaching sequences for writing, published on a primary website, are used by teachers across the country. Janet works mainly in Lancashire and Cumbria supporting teachers in schools in counties, providing high-quality training sessions and writing teaching resources covering all aspects of Primary English. She is a committee member of the National Association of Advisers in English.
